Todd W. Sigety is a certified member of the International Society of Appraisers, and is currently serving as member of the ISA Board of Directors. With a certification in Antiques and Residential Contents, he is qualified to appraise a wide range of fine and decorative arts, although he is known primarily for his expertise in appraising, evaluating and authenticating period English and American antique furniture. Todd Sigety is uniquely qualified to execute professional written appraisals and opinions of value on antique furniture and fine art. He is familiar with many antique dealers, shop owners, auction houses and shows and show promoters in the greater Washington DC metropolitan area and beyond, and recognizes the importance of assigning the proper markets for determining values of antiques and fine art. In addition to identifying these complex markets and types of values, Mr. Sigety's education and diverse background in antique sales, property valuation, and identification make him uniquely qualified to perform written fine art, decorative arts and residential content appraisals.
His knowledge and ability to catalog and identify personal property will result in a professionally prepared appraisal report written to the International Society of Appraisers Appraisal Report Writing Standards and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). As a certified member of the International Society of Antiques, Mr. Sigety is also a "qualified appraiser" as defined by the Internal Revenue Service for federal tax function appraisals. Todd Sigety is also the editor and developer of the annual Journal of Advanced Appraisal studies, published by the Foundation of Appraisal Education. He also contributed articles for the 2008 and 2009 editions. He has been a feature article writer on antique furniture with the Antiquer, a fine art and antiques magazine published out of New York City. The monthly magazine was usually theme based, with Mr. Sigety contributing on topics such as American Southern Furniture, Colonial Revival Furniture and Chinoisere. He is a recipient of the ISA Publications award for a series of articles on world furniture which have now been published as a book, World Furniture: An Introduction to Regions, Styles, Periods and Tastes. In addition to serving on the national Board of Directors of the International Society of Appraisers he is currently the editor of the National Capital Area Chapter ISA newsletter, VALUES, and webmaster and developer of the chapter website, and past Chairman of the ISA Technology committee. He is also an active public speaker on antiques and appraising, with presentations to local and national collecting and appraisal organizations.
Todd W. Sigety is also a partner in the Appraiser Workshops, developers of appraisal related courses and educational opportunities for practicing appraisers. Through the Appraiser Workshops brand he has also developed a Blog for personal property news and information. His commentary and expertise on appraising antique furniture and the antiques industry have appeared in national magazines and trade publications such as the Maine Antique Digest, Style and Décor Magazine, The New England Journal of Antiques and The Antiquer. His two antique galleries in Old Town Alexandria, Washington Square Antiques, Inc. specialize in 18th and early 19th century American and English furniture, fine art and appropriate accessories. With a diverse background in business and many years of experience in the antiques and decorative arts field, Todd and WSA Appraisals are uniquely qualified to execute professional written appraisals and opinions of value on fine and decorative art for insurance, estates, charitable donations and equitable distributions. Todd is a graduate of the Connoisseurship program in Fine and Decorative Arts from George Washington University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the Virginia Bankers School at the University of Virginia.
